Day of Caring is a one day, hands-on experience where volunteer teams from local businesses are matched with local non-profit agencies and schools to complete meaningful projects that fulfill agency and community needs. Our 2014 grant process is in full swing.  A major part of the process is the team that reviews the grants, interviews the agencies, and makes the recommendations for funding.  We call this team our Citizen Action Team or CAT and it is made up of members of the community who give to United Way either financially or through volunteering. During our Days of Action Children’s Literacy Event we not only gave out 450 backpacks and over 3000 books but we also read stories to the kids and did activities with them.  One of the stories that we read was Baby, I’m Watching Over You, by Carol Casey.  The book is about men and women who are serving our country overseas and their bond with their children.  It illustrates that no matter where they are, they are always watching over … read more
